- ItemChemotherapy Induced Liver & Kidney Complication in Hodgkin Lymphoma Patient in West Bank(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Donia Khalid Tomizy; Manar Rouhe Alsharabate; Haneen Nur; Firas AlmahmuodBackground: Lymphomas are a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. It is caused by an accumulation of malignant lymphocytes in lymph nodes and other lymphoid tissues, which results in defining the clinical features of lymphadenopathy. Based on the histological presence of Reed-Sternberg cells in Hodgkin Lymphoma, it is generally divided into two categories: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Hodgkin's lymphoma accounts for about 10% of all lymphomas, and the remaining 90% are referred to as NHL. According to the statistics of the Palestinian Ministry of Health for the year 2021, NHL and HL ranked the seventh and the ninth, respectively, among the most prevalent types of cancer in the West Bank. Although cytotoxic therapy prolongs the survival of patients with advanced and metastatic cancers, but there are significant drawbacks to this double-edged sword. Most of the drugs and foreign substances that enter the body have side effects, including chemotherapy, which shows several side effects on liver and kidneys, as both are responsible for the elimination of poisons, drugs, and endogenous metabolic products.

- ItemIndications, Characteristics, Findings & Recommendation of Patients Undergoing ERCP in Al Shefa Hospital(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Mustafa Abu Jayyab; Mustafa A. Abu Jayyab; Hasan K. H. Hamdan; Ahmed M. Z. Eid; Khaled A. A. Siyam; Moshee Al-Dahdouh; Tayseer Jamal Afifi; Khamis ElessiBackground: Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a highly specialized procedure that combines diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. ERCP allows physicians to examine the biliary tract, pancreas, and gallbladder by using a flexible endoscope equipped with a tiny camera and contrast dye. ERCP is frequently used to diagnose and treat various conditions, such as gallstones, pancreatitis, bile duct obstruction, and certain cancers. During the procedure, the physician can remove obstructions, take tissue samples for further testing, and place stents to keep the bile duct open. The procedure is performed by a highly trained gastroenterologist in a hospital or specialized center equipped with the necessary tools and equipment. While ERCP is generally safe, it does carry a higher risk of complications, such as pancreatitis, bleeding, or infection. Patients who undergo ERCP will need to fast for several hours before the procedure and will receive sedation to help them relax during the examination. Following the procedure, patients may experience mild discomfort or bloating, but these symptoms typically subside within a few days. ERCP is a crucial tool in the diagnosis and treatment of many gastrointestinal conditions, and if recommended by your physician, it is important to carefully follow all pre- and post-procedure instructions to ensure the best possible outcome.
- ItemMental Health in Schools(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Lama Diriyeh; Reem LadadwaBackground: There have been several mental health quantitative researches over the years. Most came to the conclusion that the primary cause of mental distress and depression among Palestinians is due to the high exposure to violence due to occupation practices in the West Bank and Gaza. In addition, the stigma around mental health illness in the Palestinian community, and the lack of highly educated and experienced mental health nurses and practitioners cause many Palestinians to refrain from seeking professional help in most cases. Many studies also indicated the lack of qualitative research regarding the topic and the necessity of this type of research, along with the many available quantitative researches on the topic, to establish a sustainable support system.

- ItemBreast Cancer Knowledge and Practice of Breast Self-Examination among Female Al-Quds University Students(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Manal Al-Radayda; Mariam Khatib; Razan Rabaiaa; Hala Sabri; Asmaa Al-Deek; Ibrahim GhannamBackground: Among most nations throughout the world, breast cancer is the most frequently publicly detected malignancy in women. In order to increase women's awareness, and knowledge of their breast situation and aid in the early detection of any breast abnormalities, breast self-examination (BSE) is a beneficial screening technique. This is a study designed to evaluate the level of understanding of BC, and BSE among female university students. A self-administered questionnaire was employed to gauge knowledge of breast cancer and associated topics. The study involved 202 students, 32.8% of whom were from Health professions majors, and 14.9% among them had a history of breast cancer in their families. Nearly all of the students (98.5%) were already familiar with breast cancer, having learned about it from a variety of sources, including social media as a major source (91%), educational establishments (76.1%), and other sources. Good knowledge was found for some signs, symptoms (like a lump in the breast (94%)), and risk factors of breast cancer (like a family history of BC (88%)); however, average knowledge (59%) was found for techniques for early diagnosis and care, and the procedure for BSE and 49% know when to perform it, yet only 12.9% actually execute it on a regular basis. Not having breast issues was the most barrier to BSE practice (79.9%), followed by lack of knowledge (37.1%). To raise knowledge regarding BC and BCE use, a training program should be put into place.
- ItemBarriers to Breast Cancer Screening in Arab Countries(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Amani Alhamid; Hussein HallakBackground: Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide. In 2020, and according to WHO, about 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer(WHO, 26 March 2021). Moreover, the highest rate of cancer mortality in women is related to breast cancer (Sung et al., 2021). Breast cancer is considered to be a public health problem in developed and developing countries. Previous studies revealed that screening can reduce the mortality rate of breast cancer, which can be done by different approaches. Moreover, the number and deaths in developing countries are increasing rapidly, and about half of the deaths are presented in these countries due to: changes in risk factors, inadequate access to breast cancer screening and deficiency of treatment (Al-Azri M, 2020, Sun, 2017). This makes early detection or screening for breast cancer a health priority. However, participation in breast cancer screening in Arab countries are considered to be very low (Alatrash, 2020). The reason for this low participation has to be studied, especially that literature on breast cancer screening in these countries is quite scarce (Donnelly et al., 2013).
- ItemDoes Endovascular Duration Impact Clinical Outcomes in Aortic Arch Repair? The RELAYTM Branched International Stance(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Abedalaziz Omar Surkhi; Sven Z. C. P. Tan; Matti Jubouri; Damian M. Bailey; Ian M. Williams; Mohamad BashirBackground: The high mortality and morbidity rates in surgical aortic arch repair are a barrier to therapy for a considerable proportion of patients with aortic arch aneurysm or dissection. There is hence a demand for the development and adoption of a minimally invasive alternative to aortic arch repair, such as thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). Procedural duration is a key factor in the pathogenesis of complications in surgical aortic arch repair.
- ItemCurrent Updates in Gene Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis(Al-Quds University - Deanship of Scientific Research, 2023-05-16) Hossam Tharwat Ali; Haya Mohamed; Yara Ashour; Idris Sula; Ahmed Elrefaey; Mennatullah Mohamed Eltaras; Mostafa MeshrefBackground: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common demyelinating disease affecting predominantly young adults. The underlying pathogenesis isn’t fully understood although autoimmune attacks against proteins in the CNS is the most accepted theory. Oligodendrocytes seem to be the most involved resulting in demyelinated axons. Currently, the management of MS focuses on relieving symptoms during acute attacks and preventing disease progression using disease-odifying agents such as interferon-beta, dimethyl fumarate, natalizumab, and fingolimod. Studies have proven long-term improvement on these drugs. However, possible side effects and curatively inducing or improving the repair process are major challenges.
