Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the level of the map reading skill for 9th grade students in Bethlehem District, and their spatial intelligence, also to check if there is a relation between map reading skill and spatial intelligence. To conduct the aims of the study, the researcher prepared two instruments, the first instrument was an exam to evaluate the map reading skill, and the second instrument was an exam to measure the spatial intelligence which the researcher adopted from previous studies. Validity and reliability were done for the instruments. The instruments of the study were applied in the first semester of the academic year 2019\2020 on a random sample which was selected clusteredly. The society of the study was composed from (4010) male and female students distributed in governmental and private schools in Bethlehem District, (1998) of them are males, and (2012) of them are females. The sample consisted of (285) males and females students, (140) of them are males and (145) of them are females, is approximately 7% of the society. The results of the study showed that the level of the map reading skill in Geography subject for 9th grade students in Bethlehem District was 49.7%. And their spatial intelligence was 47.2%. Also there are no statistical significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) in the map reading skill and spatial intelligence due to gender. But there are significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) in the map reading skill and spatial intelligence due to type of school in favor of the private schools. Moreover there is a statistically significant relation at (α ≤ 0.05) between the map reading skill and spatial intelligence; the relation is direct proportion which means when map reading skill increases, spatial intelligence will increase. In the light of these results, the researcher recommends using teaching methods in Geography which develop the map reading skill and the spatial intelligence, also much more studies should be done to check these skills and to investigate the reasons why there are too little.
