Abstract
Parenting Styles and Attention Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder Among Children in Gaza Introduction: Parents’ care of their children is one sign and evidence of the community civilization and modernization. Therefore, parenting styles identifies the essence of the child that will be the man of the future. Furthermore, the right parenting styles of the children will affect inevitably positively on the themselves and their community. On the other hand, the bad styles will affect negatively on both. . The Study Goal: The study aimed to identify the most common parenting styles as perceived by the children and the prevalence of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder among children in light of some demographical variables. The Study Methodology: The researcher used a random sample of (380) students from UNRWA schools in Gaza , (187 males) and (193 females) students. The use of the list of demographic factors was prepared by the researcher, and parenting styles scale as perceived by children (Jibril, 1989), and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (Thabet, 2006). The study followed the analytical descriptive method. Findings: One of the main findings of my study is: the children, in the size of family which is less than 4 members, receive better parenting styles treatment that the bigger size. On the other hand, families with more than 4 or big number have a lot of disorder and attention deficit. Besides, the youngest child of the family receives special and better treatment than the older. However the youngest has more disorder hyperactivity disorder and attention distraction / Deficit. Moreover, the educated parents use a better parenting styles treatments with their children than uneducated or low achievement parents. Finally, the families with low economic situation or poor have higher rate of hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit. Recommendations: My study concluded many important recommendation. The most important recommendation of the study is that teachers should receive training to employ the concepts of behavior modification for children with hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit during the onset of symptoms in the classroom. In addition, the role of parents is the most important environmental factors that can contribute to the reduction of disorder in children This will be by providing many instructions and guidance that increase their understanding of the symptoms of this disorder and methods of treatment, especially in the family environment in the presence of siblings.
