Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the content of the new Science and Life textbooks for grades (6,7&,8) of the higher elementary stage in Palestine in the light of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The researcher used the descriptive method using the content analysis approach. She prepared the list of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).The sample of the study consisted of the contents of science and life textbooks for grades (6, 7& 8). After analyzing and extracting the frequencies and percentages the results was: The (NGSS) standards are available in the content of Science and Life textbooks for grades (6,7&8), but in varying degrees. There was differences in the total frequency and percentage between (NGSS) dimensions. Where the availability of the scientific and engineering practices standards was (63%), the availability of the disciplinary core ideas dimension was (9%) and the availability of crosscutting concepts was (28%). The results revealed that the content of science and life textbooks for grades (6, 7&8) met the NGSS standards. These standards were available in the three science and life textbooks in a similar proportion within grades and varying across grades. In the light of the results of the study, the researcher recommended the inclusion of the main ideas that not included in the content of science and life textbooks for the basic stage (6, 7&-8). Moreover, taking into consideration the balance in the distribution of the standards in the content of science and life textbooks in terms of scientific and engineering practices. In addition, the standards for crosscutting concepts also needed to be balanced in their distribution in the content of textbooks. Moreover, held training meetings for the professional development of teachers to apply curricula that take into consideration the availability of NGSS standard.
