Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between bullying and
self-assertiveness among upper elementry school students in Hebron, as well as
to identify the most common bullying patterns in the school, the level of selfassertiveness
and school bullying in both sexes (male-female).
In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive correlative
approach was adopted through the use of two measures: the self-assertiveness
measure of Shawqi which consists of (28) paragraph or item, and the measure
of bullying behavior of Desouki, which consists of (20) paragraph or item.
These measures were applied to a sample of (400) students, including (215)
males and (185) females during the academic year (2018-2019). In order to
analyze the data, statistical package of social sciences (SPSS) was used to
calculate correlation coefficient, standard deviation, arithmetic mean and
significant differences.
The study found that there was a statistically significant correlation between
bullying and self-effictiveness among upper elementry school students in
Hebron; there were also statistically significant differences in the level of
bullying attributed to the gender, academic achievement and unsatisfactory
achievement in favor of males. The study also revealed that there were no
statistically significant differences in the level of bullying among upper
elementry school students due to the type of school, birth order in the family
and place of residence. On the other hand, the results showed a statistically
significant differences in the level of self-effectiveness attributed to gender,
academic achievement and birth order in the family, respectively. Whereas for
the variables type of school and place of residence, no statistically significant
differences were detected in the level of self-effectiveness. The researcher
recommended conducting counseling programs for males to alleviate their
bullying, and developing awareness programs regarding bullying and selfeffectiveness
for those with unsatisfactory achievement.
