Abstract
This study is aimed to identify the factors affecting the decision making-process among principals of government secondary school in Bethlehem District, from their point of view.
The society of the study consisted of all male and female principals of secondary schools in Bethlehem District, who are (85) principals. The sample of study consisted of (54) male and female principals who work in Bethlehem District.
The researcher used a questionnaire as the research instrument, consisting of (45) items distributed on three factors. Professional, personal, and administrative factors. In order to achieve the objectives of the study. The researcher used a Statistical Package for Social Sciences program (SPSS). The study showed many results, the most important one being that the degree to which government secondary school principals in the governorate of Bethlehem practice educational decisions in the factors of educational and administrative tasks, and specific decision making process in all factors (the instrument as whole) were medium as it reached their value (2.81) . Also, there was no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05), in the affecting factors of decision-making process among the government secondary schools in Bethlehem District male and female principals, from their point of view. This was due to the study variables (sex, age, qualification, number of years of experience in the school administration, school gender, and school site).
The study showed a number of recommendations. The most crucial; giving training courses to principals in the decisions making process and its patterns to improve its quality and effusiveness of decisions. Administrative members should take care of administrative decisions that are made after analyzing the surrounding environment, studying and evaluating all alternatives. It is an important point that the decisions making process is not improvised and based on personal experiences only. To promote greater sensitivity to recent trends in making decisions, school principals and teachers need to be more informed and more awareness should be raised of any environmental conditions related to the school, whether from a local or global perspective.
Working to provide a communication system that allows the exchange of information and data between teachers and a school principal, in order to employ it in the scientific method for making school administrative decisions.
