dc.description.abstractThis study highlights the role of the U.S in the peace process in Northern Ireland and the achievement of Good Friday Agreement signed in Belfast in 1998, as a major step to conclude the political-sectarian conflict. It is also to examine the main motives of the U.S intervention, the methods and strategies adopted by the U.S mediators to push forward the parties involved in the conflict to take part in the negotiations and overcome obstacles and problems that accompanied the negotiations process. The importance of this study lies in being an analysis of the U.S role as a mediator and patron of the peace process in the Irish Question. The researcher used the descriptive-historical methodology in tracing the trajectory of the conflict in Ireland, and the analytical methodology to identify a number of historical junctures that contributed to developing the U.S position on the Irish Question. Due to the nature of international political dynamics and the multiplicity of players in the Irish Question, the researcher used conflict resolution theories and Levels of Analysis theoretical approaches to identify the reasons behind the success of U.S intervention during the Administration of President Bill Clinton exclusively The study identifies a number of results, the most important clarifies that the USA played the role of the neutral mediator and patron of the peace process. This position was a result of the great political and economic power of the Irish –Americans accumulated over years of exerting great efforts to seriously put the Irish Question on the U.S foreign policy agenda. In addition to the seriousness and commitment of the administration of President Bill Clinton to peace process, and the political & economical interests in the Irish island. This study offers a contribution in comparative conflicts studies to the Arab Library, which lacks researches and studies on the Irish Question, the history of the conflict and the Peace Process there.en
