The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety symptoms among post graduate students in the Palestinian universities by using a cross sectional study. The study population consisted of 6290 students from all the Palestinian universities (Hebron university, Al Quds University, Al Najah University and Birzeit University) during the academic year (2020/2019). The sample of the study consisted of (233) students, about 3.4% of the original study community, by using a convenience sampling. The questionnaire which was used as the data collection was (State /trait of Anxiety) “Spielberger and his colleagues” and it was distributed electronically. Statistical processing of the data was done by extracting the arithmetic mean and standard deviations for each of the items of the questionnaire , a test (T), one wan Anova -variance analysis test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Alpha Cronbach's stability equation in addition to the use of the statistical package (SPSS.23). The findings revealed that the degree of anxiety (state and trait) was “medium” and the percentage of those with a high prevalence of anxiety was 5.6%, 60.1% for the intermediate degree, and 34.3% for the low degree. The results showed that 61.4% of the respondents had clinical anxiety. There was a positive correlation with statistically significant at the level of significance (α ≥ 0.05) between the prevalence of symptoms of anxiety state and anxiety trait. There were no statistically significant differences at level of (α ≥ 0.05) between anxiety as a trait and (gender, place of residence, number of family members, specialization in the bachelor's degree, nature of the master's program, university, GPA, number of credit hours registered), while there was a statistically significant relationship between anxiety as a trait and (age ,The nature of the relationship with the professors, the social status, the monthly household income in shekels, the student’s work). The researcher conducted multiple regression analysis and found an adverse effect between these variables and the degree of prevalence of anxiety symptoms as a trait among the post graduate students in the Palestinian universities. In addition, there was no statistically significant relationship between anxiety as a state and (gender, place of residence, number of family members, specialization in the bachelor's degree, nature of the master's program, university, GPA, number of registered hours, the level of the monthly household income in shekels, nature of student work, social status), while there was a significant relationship between anxiety as a state and the variables (age, and the nature of the relationship with university professors). The researcher conducted multiple regression analysis and found an adverse relationship between these variables and the prevalence of anxiety symptoms as a state among the post graduate students in the Palestinian universities. The most important recommendations of the study are to prepare counseling and therapeutic programs for students who suffer from anxiety symptoms to improve their psychological status and to reduce anxiety (status and trait), and to activate the role of academic counseling for students by specialized counselors.en
