Abstract
The study aim to identify the level of the academic freedom for the academic staff in the Palestinian universities from their prespectives. The study population consisted of all educational staff and lecturers who are working in the following universities: (Al-Quds University, Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie and Bethlehem University) for the Academic year (2020/2021). The study population is (760) faculties. A random sample was selected which included (177) participants. The researcher developed a questionnaire consisting of (36) items distributed over four fields: (Academic freedom of making decisions, Freedom of speech, freedom of academic research, and freedom of teaching). Validity and reliability of the questionnaire were verified using appropriate statistical methods. The study result revealed that the level of the Academic freedom was high, and with arithmetic mean of (3.82). In addition to that, the study also showed there aren't any statistical differences in gender, posission, and university. On the other hand, it showed differences regarding experience, and the number of the years for whoever has 10 years and less. According to the study results, the researcher has several recommendations, to enrich the understanding of Academic freedom, increase the role of the faculties in making decisions regarding their qualifications, allow discussion and suggestions with the supervisors, and encourage academic research financially.
