dc.description.abstract | This study was conducted in accordance with the descriptive methodology between February and November 2020 for the purpose of identifying positive environmental behaviour and its developmental viability in industrial establishments in Hebron. To achieve the objectives of the study, a review of previous literature was carried out and a detailed questionnaire was used as the main tool to collect data from a random sample of 120 representatives of senior management and workers in the researched institutions. The study found out that the most important determinants of the environmental behaviour of industrial enterprises were economic opportunities and incentives, followed by managerial ethics and pertinent situational factors as well as the supportive environment, pressures, strains and influences. These variables manifested themselves in several dimensions, including the pursuit of a more efficient input-output relationship (resources and energy), the pursuit of greater productivity resulting from a better work environment and employee satisfaction, the establishment's desire to appear environmentally-friendly (behaviour and products), reducing costs as much as possible (in sectors such as transportation and storage), and a workers’ propensity to show commitment to environmental protection guidelines as well as integrating modern technology and financial benefits due to efficiency of environmental management. These factors also found expression in the establishment’s inclination to save money by adopting a proper waste management mechanism and management support for environmental issues based on values, ethics, and cultural and religious orientations. The important features of the developmental viability in relations to environmental behaviour are represented in the social, environmental, and economic viability .The most important indicators of viability were: The manufacture of high quality products, increasing the productivity of workers by improving their work environment, achieving financial returns through the reuse and recycling of industrial waste, the tendency towards clean energy and raising the level of worker safety, reducing the volume of consumption of resources and energy and benefiting from environment-friendly production methods, better relations between the institution’s management and workers, fewer objections and complaints from the surrounding environment, and an improved reputation of the foundation in the eyes of various stakeholders, including shareholders, suppliers, and others, as they relate to social, environmental and economic viability. Finally, the study lauds the work of the Environmental Quality Authority and recommends cooperation with the industrial sector and chambers of industry and commerce. Moreover, the study calls for promoting environmental awareness and environmental technical training for all employees in industrial establishments in order to enhance an overall positive environmental performance. More to the point, the study favors preparing a working mantel for managing the industrial environmental relationship for industrial enterprises. The study also views favourably the provision of public and private bodies that would give technical and advisory support for industrial enterprises and stimulate growth by utilizing various economic means in cooperation with banks, insurance, and lending companies. Additional stimulation can be realized by stimulating success and encouraging excellent experiences by way of media promotion. | |
