Abstract
This study aimed to identify the level of psychological and social impact of father’s loss among Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip. It is a comparative study between children who lost their parents due to martyrdom, and children who lost their parents due to another reason. This study focused on six main dimensions that are divided into two parts: three psychological dimensions which are aggression, anxiety and depressionin addition to three social dimensions which are compatibility, psychosocial adjustment, and social isolation. • The sample consisted of (353) children of both sexes between (12-16) years who have experienced loss during the age of six years and above from the Gaza and North Gaza governorates. • The researcher also made three focus groups for the mothers of the children included in the study sample. The sample consisted of (30) mothers from the governorates of Gaza and the northern Gaza Strip. • The researcher prepared a measure and used it after it was presented to a committee of arbitrators and obtaining an approval on its validity in accordance with the age category of the research sample. The study reached the followingfindings: • The psychological impact level of the father’s loss as a result of martyrdom on the children of the study sample was average in the psychological dimensions, and the arithmetic mean for all dimensions is (3.02), and the relative weight is equal to (60.37%). • The level of social impact of the father’s loss as a result of martyrdom on the children of the study sample was significant in the social dimensions, and the mean for all dimensions is (3.48), and the relative weight is equal to (69.61%). • The results showed that the level of psychological impact of children who lost their parents as a result of natural death, average in the psychological dimensions, and that the arithmetic mean for all dimensions is (2.95), the relative weight is equal to (58.94%), and that the anxiety dimension came first with a relative weight (68.63%) (I.e. with a high degree of approval. • It also showed that the level of social impact of children who lost their parents as a result of natural death, is large in the social dimensions, and that the arithmetic mean for all dimensions is (3.48), and the relative weight is equal (69.60%)
