| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to investigate the role of the international funding of the Palestinian NGOs operating in the southern West Bank and its correlation with the sustainable development in Palestine. Several research tools were employed to achieve the objectives of this study according to the descriptive analytical method (mixed approach). These tools include a literature review of the previous studies, a questionnaire, and personal in-depth interviews with the concerned stakeholders. There are a 100 active NGOs operating in the southern West Bank, of which 79 were randomly selected as a study sample. Two hundred questionnaires were distributed among the employs of the study sample of which 27 were excluded and 173 were selected and analyzed. The results were subjected to statistical analysis using the SPSS program. The results showed a relatively high percentage (78.6%) of overall satisfactory feedback and evaluation from the surveyed NGOs about the international funding of their institutes. The highest evaluation values were for those NGOs receiving international funding from agencies that often have a political agenda while the lowest values were for the NGOs that have an independent decision making mechanisms. Moreover, the study concluded that the degree of the overall evaluation of the role of the international funding in achieving a sustainable development in Palestine is significant (78.2%). For examples the sustainable development in environmental, social, and economic sectors were 81.8%, 87.4%), and 88.8%, respectively. The study also revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between the gender and years of experience of the surveyed employees and the average values of their evaluations on the role the international funding of Palestinian NGOs on the sustainable development in the studied area. Such correlation was negative for other tested variables such as educational qualifications of the surveyed employees, their job titles and the institution’s field of work. Furthermore, the results disclosed that the international funding is, in most of the cases, affiliated to the political provisions and directions of the funding agency or country. In addition, the results revealed a high competition among the surveyed NGOs toward attracting the inadequately afforded international funds. Finally, the study also showed that the surveyed NGOs could be classified into two categories; one that accept the political conditions of the funder even if they have to modify their institutional national goals and vision, the second category refuses incompatible funder agenda and therefore dependent on none conditioned resources such as the so called “friends of the Palestinian people”. | en |
