This study aimed to explore the degree of applying governance principles in the Palestinian governmental higher education institutions in the southern governorates " Al-Aqsa university as a case study. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach. A questionnaire was designed as a tool to collect data. Simple random sampling method was used to explore the opinions of the study population of (1131) persons divided into (574) administrative and (557) academic. The sample study which was (285) persons distributed and responses were (254) which represent a response rate of 88.5%. The research has concluded with a number of results، among which: The total degree of approval by responses of respondents on the principle's governance on Al- Aqsa university was low and with relative weight 48.8%، the total degree of approval by academic on the principle's governance on Al- Aqsa university was low and with relative weigh 50.0%،while the total degree of approval by administrators on the principle's governance on Al- Aqsa university was low and with relative weigh 50.2%، and the total degree of approval on the principle's governance on Al- Aqsa university was low and with relative weigh 48.4%. The degree of approval by academic administrators on the principles of governance was low، and There were no statistically significant differences in the responses of respondents on the application of the principles of governance at Al-Aqsa University due to demographic characteristics (gender، age، educational level، specialization، job title، years of service). The research has introduced a set of recommendations، among which: The necessity to apply governance principles in institutions of higher education throughout the laws and regulations، dissemination of governance culture within the university including the teaching programs and training courses for employees، reconsideration of the organizational structures and the laws of the university and reinforcing the system of control throughout group work and activation joint cooperation to achieve greater achievement and its conformity with quality standards and accreditation at the University.
