Abstract
This study aimed to reveal the life skills included in the Arabic language textbooks for the higher elementary stage in Palestine. The study society and its sample are all the Arabic language textbooks for the upper elementary stage from the fifth grade to the ninth grade for the academic year 2018-2019. The researcher followed the analytical descriptive approach. In order to achieve the purposes of the study, the researcher constructed the analysis instrument. All Arabic language textbooks for the higher elementary stage were analyzed in light of the main life skills, descriptive statistics were used to extract frequencies and percentages. The study found that the repetition of the life skills included in the Arabic language textbooks for the basic stage was (1671) times; the highest was the critical thinking skill, the least communications skills. The results also showed that the seventh grade Arabic textbooks was the most included for life skills, while the fifth grade Arabic textbooks was the least of them included life skills, in addition to the absence of a specific pattern life skills included in the textbooks, and was distributed randomly. In light of the results, the study recommends to inviting the Palestinian curriculum planners to adopt a clear matrix of life skills, taking into consideration the gradation in the educational stages. And invite the designers of Arabic language curricula for the basic stage in Palestine to reconsider the construction of educational content.And to include in the various activities that contribute to the development of life skills a gradual and balanced development according to a specific methodology, that consider the objectives of teaching Arabic language and the characteristics of the students in the primary stage
