Abstract
This study aimed to determine the chemical literacy and its relationship to mental motivation among 11th graders’ in the southern Hebron educational directorate. The study was conducted in the second semester of the academic year 2019/2020 on a sample that was chosen in a random cluster method, and the number of its members reached (458) students, (32%). The researcher followed the descriptive approach (correlation approach), and used two instruments: a test to measure the level of chemical Literacy from its preparation and the second was adopted to measure mental motivation and confirmed their validity and releability (0.98 and 0.81), respectively. The results of the study showed that 11th graders’ had a moderate degree of chemical land mental motivation. And that the level of chemical liiteracy came in favor of the literary branch and the level of mental motivation in favor of males with no effect on the academic branch. The chemical liiteracy results were in the conceptual domain in favour of the literary branch, and in the functional domain in favor of males. But in the domain of multidimensional and nominal domain came in favor of the literary branch, In the domains of mental motivation (orientation towards learning), the results were in favour of literary branch, And that the students in the humanities stream had a higher level of chemical education and male students had a higher level of mental motivation regardless the branch. The results showed that there is a positive correlation between the level of chemical liiteracy and mental motivation, with no correlation between the levels of nominal and functional chemical liiteracy and all mental motivation domains. The study recommended the necessity of setting standards to determine the students’ orientation according to the level of their scientific liiteracy, and thereby raising the level of students’ competences in education. The study recommended that attention should be paid to the school environment in general and the classroom environment in particular.
