Abstract
The aim of the study is to identify the impact of education on social and economic development in Palestine for the period between 2000 and 2018. The regression analysis results of the research, and by using a descriptive method, showed that 82.1% of the change per capita share of the gross domestic product; 10.7% of the change in unemployment levels; 28.1% of the change in inflation; 92.3% of the change in the number of crimes; and 16.7% of the change in number of murders and attempted reported murders. Such changes are a result of the change in education represented in the number of graduates from universities and community colleges. Moreover, the results of the study showed a statistically significant direct effect of education on both per capita gross domestic product and the number of reported crimes. However, the results showed a negative confounder of education on the level of inflation. Additionally, there was no direct impact of education on unemployment or murder. The study developed a set of recommendation on the importance of education and its effect on the economic and social development in Palestine. The recommendations include highlighting the importance of the role of educational institutions in Palestine in leading the Palestinian community towards a positive change and be a pioneer of change among Palestinians. Educational institutions play a crucial role in guiding the educational process that help in the social and economic development of Palestinians, and improve the level of individual participation in society. Moreover, the study urges the employment of human and material resources in developing the education sector in Palestine and advance the pedagogical methods of learning by using modern technologies that support innovative and creative scientific research in accordance with developmental policies and plans. Furthermore, the study recommends reviewing and re-evaluating the existing programs and introducing new programs and specializations that help in the development process such as modern technical and scientific studies that aim at qualifying graduates with the requisite skills to play a key role in society and help in improving the industrial, productive, and service sectors.
