Abstract
The main objective of this study was to identify the level of emotional intelligence and its
relationship to the effectiveness of the performance of project teams in NGOs in the Gaza
Strip. The researcher used the descriptive analytical method and the questionnaire as a tool to
collect primary data. The targeted community was represented by project workers in the
NGOs working in the Gaza Strip, totaled (17934) employees. The systematic random
sampling method was used. The study sample reached (376) according to the sample
equation. (376) questionnaires were distributed, while the number of questionnaires received
was (350), that is (93.1%). After examining the recovered questionnaires, none of them was
excluded since they fulfilled the required conditions, and therefore (350) questionnaires were
analyzed, i.e. the proportion of questionnaires analyzed is the same as response rate.
And it reached the following results:
A. There is a positive correlation between the emotional intelligence and all its axes (selfawareness,
self-organization, motivation, empathy, social skills) and the effectiveness
of the performance of project workers in the NGOs working in the Gaza Strip.
B. There were no statistically significant differences, at the level of (α≤0.05) averages of
respondents' responses to emotional intelligence, attributed to the following
demographic variables (gender, age, educational qualification, job title, years of
experience, and economic level). While there were differences in the averages of
respondents' responses due to the workplace variable.
C. The absence of statistically significant differences at the level of (α≤0.05) in the
average of the respondents' responses about the effectiveness of performance due to the
following demographic variables (gender, age, educational qualification, work place,
job title, years of experience, economic level).
The study also provided a set of recommendations including:
A. Raising awareness of the concept and importance of emotional intelligence and
enhance its practice among NGO staff through the development of capacity building
programs in this area, including improving knowledge and practice.
B. The adoption of emotional intelligence skills is one of the basic skills required to
manage and implement projects.
C. Encouraging workers (project teams) at different functional levels to express their
emotions by giving them the confidence and opportunities to express comfortably.
D. Encouraging employees to take advantage of past experiences, negative and positive,
and consider them as learning experiences and opportunities.
