Abstract
This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a training program for early intervention based on Zeeman and House theory to develop the independence and social skills of children with mental disabilities. The study population consisted of students from Dura Al-Amal Center for Rehabilitation. The number was ( 60) students from the Dura region and its villages. The sample consisted of ( 10 ) children in the early age with moderate and severe intellectual disability. In order to achieve the study objectives, two tools were used: the scale of independence and social skills for children with disabilities, and interviewing mothers. indications of validity were achieved for the tools, and also indications of stability for the interview questions. By conducting an interview for the mothers of the children, and then re-interviewing a week after the first interview. The researcher used the semi-experimental method for its convenience for the purposes of the study. The time period was ( 6 ) months, and the results indicated that the program used is effective in improving the independence and social skills of children with mental disabilities after applying the training program, and the results of the mothers second interviews confirmed that there was an improvement in the children's level of their performance of independent and social skills. In light of these two results, the study presented a group of recommendations that contribute to the development of the independence and social skills of children with mental disabilities and facilitate their adaptation in society and their integration with their peers
