Abstract
The study aims to identify the role of international standards for project management in
achieving the competitive advantage of non-governmental organizations that focus and
target women in their interventions in the southern Palestinian governorates. To achieve
the goal of the study, the descriptive analytical method was adopted, based on the
questionnaire and the structured interview tools. 204 NGOs senior staff were targeted
(general manager, project manager, project coordinator, and program manager), and (188)
questionnaires were received, with a recovery rate of (92.15%). In addition to 9 structured
interviews with senior staff in those NGOs.
The main highlighted results from the study are: the international standards for project
management in NGOs working in the field of women achieved a very high level, with a
relative weight of 84.8%, along with the sustainable competitive advantage with a relative
weight of 82.9%. The results showed a direct correlation between the international
standards for project management and the sustainable competitive advantage in NGOs
working in the field of women, and the existence of a statistically significant impact of the
international standards for project management (scope management, resource management,
communication management, quality management, stakeholder management) in achieving
sustainable competitive advantage, and the absence of a statistically significant impact of
international standards of project management (integration management, schedule
management, cost management, risk management, and procurement management) in
achieving sustainable competitive advantage.
Additionally, the results showed that there were no differences in the average response of
respondents about international standards for project management and competitive
advantage due to personal and functional variables, and there were statistically significant
differences in the average response of respondents about sustainable competitive advantage
due to educational qualification variables, in favor of the bachelor’s category.
In light of the results, the study recommended directing NGOs working in the field of
women towards applying the international standard for project management (ISO1006),
and creating a specialized, highly qualified and experienced unit for project risk
management, which contributes to the application of international standards for project
management in a comprehensive manner. In addition to the need to use scientific
methodological tools to enhance the sustainable competitive advantage to shift from a
performance measurement system only to a sustainable performance management system.
The study also recommended the application of interactive dynamic tools that integrate the
requirements of stakeholders into the organizations strategy, in order to achieve a
sustainable added value for organizations
