Testicular adrenal rest tumor in a pediatric patient with congenital adrenal hyperplasia: A case report
(Science Direct, 2023-08-17) Mohammad G. Ibdah; Salem M. Tos; Narmeen Giacaman; Anas Aljundi; Mohamad Qabaja; Muayad Salman
Testicular adrenal rest tumors (TARTs) are benign intratesticular tumors that occur mostly in male patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), their prevalence in these populations can reach up to 94%. We hereby report a male child with known CAH, presented with bilateral irregular testicular masses which were diagnosed as TARTs. TARTs were first reported in 1940, They were named due to their resemblance to adrenal tissue, they are almost always benign but can blunt spermatogenesis and endocrine function of the testis leading to infertility, they are diagnosed by a combination of clinical history, physical exam, and imaging studies, MRI and U/S are equally good for diagnosis and follow-up, treatment includes surgical resection or observation depending on tumor size, symptoms, and fertility goals. TARTs are benign testicular tumors that are strongly associated with CAH, they can be completely asymptomatic or can cause pain and infertility, diagnosis can be done by imaging modalities like MRI or U/S, and treatment options include observation or surgical removal.

    Education brings about changes
(2023-07-31) Zoubaida Subhi Salman; Sondos Mohammad Jamous
This article highlights the impact of John Dewey's philosophy on education in the Arab world. Dewey's ideas brought about a significant revolution in the field of education by challenging traditional and compulsive approaches to learning. He emphasized the importance of individual thought, free will, and creativity, which led to advancements in education, science, and technology. The article also discusses how influenced by Dewey's philosophy, Paulo Freire incorporated similar ideas into his childcentered or progressive education approach. Freire's ideas aligned with Dewey's focus on studentcentered learning and empowering students to actively participate in their education. However, the implementation of Dewey's ideas in the Arab world faced challenges and criticism. Traditional educational practices influenced by cultural, social, and political factors often clashed with the progressive approaches advocated by Dewey. The tension between traditional and progressive education created obstacles in adapting Dewey's philosophy to the Arab world education systems. Despite these challenges, Dewey's ideas remain relevant in contemporary Arab World education. His theories have contributed to the development of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. These skills are crucial in preparing students to navigate an ever-changing world. This paper provides insights into the successes, challenges, and adaptations of Dewey's educational philosophy in the Arab world. It highlights ongoing efforts to enhance educational practices and empower students in the Arab world countries, ultimately aiming to improve the quality of education and foster the growth of students in the region. The study found that Dewey's philosophy emphasized the importance of experiential learning, democracy, and the integration of education with real-life experiences. These ideas aligned with the aspirations of many Arab intellectuals who fostered critical thinking, creativity, and active citizenship among their populations. It also found that the integration of Dewey's philosophy in Arab education may face challenges due to cultural and contextual differences.

Smart Parking Navigator": An IoT Fog-Based System for Realtime Car Parking Detection
(IEEE, 2023-07-23) Emma Qumsiyeh; Isam Ishaq
Obtaining a parking spot is a significant obstacle for many citizens. With the massive increase in the number of vehicles in crowded cities, finding an unoccupied parking slot may consume time and effort and result in more traffic jams. Travelers often utilize conventional methods to locate a parking space near their destination. They navigate the entire area to locate the nearest open space. The mission is indeed aggravating and difficult. Due to these issues, "Smart Parking Navigator," an IoT fog-based smart parking system, is developed to facilitate searching available roadside parking spaces. The system monitors a predetermined parking space and provides users with real-time data about the occupancy of slots. The system employs image processing techniques, object detection algorithms, and OpenCV to determine whether a parking space is occupied or vacant. A Raspberry Pi camera connected to a Raspberry Pi 4 computer is used for real-time detection. Each parking space's status is stored in a Firebase Realtime Database. A mobile application for Android has been developed to assist clients in locating available parking. The application is connected to the database to retrieve the real-time status of each position. Once the user launches the application, the interface will visualize the condition of each parking slot. The solution is a cost-effective alternative to specialized and costly systems that has the potential for future commercial development.

Smart E-Waste Management System Utilizing Internet of Things and Deep Learning Approaches
    (2023-08-23) Daniel Voskergian; Isam Ishaq
Electronic waste is presently acknowledged as the rapidly expanding waste stream on a global scale. Consequently, e-waste represents a primary global concern in modern society since electronic equipment contains hazardous substances, and if not managed properly, it will harm human health and the en-vironment. Thus, the necessity for more innovative, safer, and greener systems to handle e-waste has never been more urgent. To address this issue, a smart e-waste management system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Deep Learn-ing (DL) based object detection is designed and developed in this paper. Three state-of-the-art object detection models, namely YOLOv5s, YOLOv7-tiny and YOLOv8s, have been adopted in this study for e-waste object detection. The re-sults demonstrate that YOLOv8s achieves the highest mAP@50 of 72% and map@50-95 of 52%. This innovative system offers the potential to manage e-waste more efficiently, supporting green city initiatives and promoting sustaina-bility. By realizing an intelligent green city vision, we can tackle various contam-ination problems, benefiting both humans and the environment.

Digital intervention for public health: searching for implementing characteristics, concepts and recommendations: scoping review
(2023-09-18) Hatem H. Alsaqqa; Abdallah Alwawi
Studying the impact of digital interventions on public health can help ensure that the offered services produce the desired results. In order to address these factors, the subsequent study uses a scope review to evaluate the state of the field while concentrating on ideas and suggestions that represent factors that have been crucial in the management of digital intervention for public health. To shed light on the traits, ideas and suggestions related to public health digital intervention, a scoping review was carried out. Five electronic databases were used to locate pertinent research that were published before February 2022. All texts were examined, and study abstracts were scrutinized to determine their eligibility. The last analysis of this study included fifteen publications; five reviews, four qualitative studies, two quantitative studies, one viewpoint study, one mixed-method study, one perspective study, and one interventional study. The key ideas for digital interventions in population management and health studies are presented in this overview. Many concepts, implementation characteristics and recommendations have been raised which highlight the future role of these interventions to enhance public engagement and health equity.
