Abstract
This study aimed at recognizing the basics/ makings of desert tourism in the area of Bethlehem in Palestine. This was done through studying the most important elements of tourism, the reality of the available services in this sector, and its importance as seasonal tourism. The researcher adopted the descriptive method using a questionnaire as a measurement tool and specifying the study population, which represents the people working in tourism and tour guiding. The researcher conducted the current study on a random sample that consists 60 individuals. The current study found a number of results. The most important result reached was that the TOTAL PROPORTIONS emphasized the marginalization of desert and semi-desert areas in Bethlehem despite the fact that it is rich with the pillars of tourism and the natural diversity in those areas. In addition, the focus is only on improving tourism in the city of Bethlehem. Moreover, the study concluded that the lack of promotion for desert tourism made for an obstacle for improving it. Finally, the study found that there is no safe transportation to and from those areas.
This study had a number of recommendations. First, it is crucial to start investing in the desert areas especially the Arish region and providing financial resources and touristic services. Second, it is recommended to employ media for promoting desert tourism. Finally, the study recommends the competent authorities to establish medical centers near the target area and PUT IT ON THE AGRNDA.
