Abstract
The study aims at investigating the reality of labor market from the perspective of the vocational and technical Palestinian graduates of the vocational and technical (technical) specializations in the Palestinian universities in Bethlehem District. Population of the study consists of all graduates of the vocational and technical specializations. Sample of the study consisted of (120) female and male graduates were selected randomly. Data of the study was collected by an online questionnaire. Results of the study uncover that vocational and technical education helps graduates to develop an independent personality and a clear insight. It also provides trainees with the necessary work skills, and helps them pick up job opportunities related to their specializations. In addition, universities offer specializations demanded in the markets. There is also satisfaction towards the role of the vocational and technical specializations as they prepare graduates to enter the markets equipped by the necessary skills needed. The results further show that one of the most important economical obstacles affecting getting a job opportunity is that the government does not provide job opportunities for these graduates whose number increasing constantly. Regarding the academic factors and training, the findings indicated that the most important one is that universities have no clear strategy that helps graduates to get suitable job opportunities. Furthermore, political situations such as the siege policy imposed on the Palestinian territories represent another obstacle facing graduates of vocational and technical specializations to get a suitable job opportunity. Concerning on the suggestions to reduce unemployment amongst graduates of the vocational and technical specializations, most respondents see that it is essential to create more job opportunities by reducing retirement age and helping them to get funding to start their small projects. In light of these results, the study recommends university to design purposive programs and holding workshops aiming at introducing students to the university goals and the vocational and technical specializations provided as well. The study also recommends in re-structuring the university courses taught for students of these specializations to suit work requirements and the constant changes take place and increasing the number of training hours in the courses plans. It is also recommended to improve the academic staff’s efficiency by exchanging experience, habilitation and design mutual co-operative programs between local and international universities suiting the changes happen to the market needs. It is also recommended to establish a graduate unit aiming at bringing projects for graduates under the university’s supervision. Finally, the study recommends conducting more research to examine the importance and role of the vocational and technical education
