Abstract
The importance of this study emerges from the conflict between the Houthis, supported by
Iran, and the Yemeni central government, supported by Saudi Arabia, as well as the
consequent regional and Arab military interference which has destruyed the infrastructure
and contributed to the spread of poverty and epidemics.
This study aims to examine the ideological thinking of the Houthis and the extent of
applying and practicing this thinking on the ground, and also to examine their belief and
emergence through their social and religious activity. This study has raised a main
question: “What are the points of similarity and difference between the political and
ideological thinking and practice on the ground by the Houthis in Yemen?
The researcher supposed that the Houthis’ slogans call upon making political and social
reforms; however, they have been transformed into demands calling for overthrowing the
regime and the seizure of power.
The researcher has divided the study into several chapters. The most important chapter is
chapter (3) which discusses the emergence of Houthis, their belief, the Shiitic groups
which they follow, their political ideology as well as the internal and external factors
which have contributed to their emergence. Chapter (4) addresses the contradiction
between Houthis’ political ideology and practice on the ground.
The study has used the descriptive approach to describe this phenomenon; the subject of
the study. The study also uses data analysis and the relationship between the subject’s
components was clarified by using several tools such as analysis of content, previous
studies as well as some relevant references in addition to some reliable websites.
The researcher has reached to several conclusions and results which indicate that
there is a contradiction between the political, social and ideological thinking of
the Houthis and their practices on the ground which are represented by the
struggle on power, based on the justifications of political, social and economic
reforms, their administrative and financial corruption as well as their vicious
behavior against the Yemeni tribes and citizens.
