Abstract
This study is about children's literature and its trends and genres in Palestine. It traces children's literature and its evolution in the West Bank and Gaza Strip since its beginnings early in the twentieth century until after the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority in 1994.
The purpose of this contribution was to serve an academic need to identify the arts and genres of children's literature in Palestine in one study.
I chose this topic because I was willing to study a new topic in the Arabic literature I had not deepened during my studies at Pachelor.
Previous studies dealt with partial topics, for example, a master's degree thesis, entitled "Children's Songs in Palestinian Poetry: 1920 - 1948", presented by Marzouq Al-Badawi to AL-Najah National University, a book about "Palestinian Stories Written for Children: 1975-1984" by Nasser Yusuf Ahmad, and Muhannad Al-Shabi's book "Introduction to Palestinian Children's Literature". Four other books were published collecting research studies and articles presented to the annual children's literature conferences, which were organized by Albireh Municipality Library between 2005-2008.
I have followed a complementary approach in my study, which is introduced by an introduction which I drew on the historic approach. In two chapters about the arts and trends, I benefited from the social, psychological, descriptive and analytical approaches.
My conclusion was that the interest in children's literature has been noticeably on the rise during the last two decades, and some literary arts have emerged while others have withdrawn back, poetic songs and stories were widely spread more than novels and plays. I have concluded as well that the patriotic trend in children's literature in Palestine still has a larger space than other trends, followed by the educational trend, social trend, entertainment trend, and historical trend, I recommend that serious support and attention should be given to the promotion of all trends of children's literature at all levels. sporadic literary works should be collected in one national library for children, missing works which are referred to in biographies should be republished and serious critical studies of children's literature should be encouraged so all concerned would be aware of points of strength to reinforce and points of weakness to address.
