MICROBIOTA-TARGETED THERAPIES FOR PREVENTION OF COLORECTAL ADENOMA RECURRENCE AFTER POLYPECTOMY: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS
(Deanship of Scientific Research - Al-Quds University, 2026-05-12) Layan Elayan; Mohammed Amer Kamel; Shankar Biswas; Yashasvi Srivastava; Ayman Hamadttu
Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy worldwide, with approximately 1.9 million new cases annually. Despite effective removal of premalignant lesions, colorectal adenoma recurrence remains a major clinical challenge, affecting up to 60% of patients within five years after polypectomy. Current chemopreventive strategies are limited by modest efficacy or safety concerns. Aspirin benefits only a narrow population, while NSAIDs and nutritional supplements have shown no consistent benefit. Emerging evidence implicates gut microbiota dysbiosis in colorectal carcinogenesis, providing a strong biological rationale for microbiota-targeted interventions. Objectives: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis pooling probiotics, prebiotics, and microbiome-modulating agents under a unified framework to estimate their collective and class-specific efficacy in preventing colorectal adenoma recurrence following polypectomy, and to assess the certainty of evidence. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines and registered with PROSPERO (CRD420251247058). PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and Web of Science were searched from inception through November 2025 for randomized controlled trials evaluating microbiota-targeted therapies versus placebo or no treatment in adults post-polypectomy. The primary outcome was adenoma recurrence at surveillance colonoscopy. Risk ratios (RR) were pooled using random-effects models. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane RoB 2, and certainty of evidence was evaluated using GRADE.

THE PHARMACIST'S NEW AI ASSISTANT: A PARTNER OR CONTESTANT
(Deanship of Scientific Research - Al-Quds University, 2026-05-12) Shatha Alqawasmeh; Tartel Anes khader Zaiton; Reema Alshweiki; Bahaa Al-Halawani
Introduction: In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force across multiple sectors of life, from education and finance to transportation and health care. Among the most prominent innovations are large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Copilot, which are capable of understanding and generating natural language with near-human proficiency Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the accuracy and efficiency of AI chatbot platforms vs. licensed pharmacists in answering pharmaceutical inquiries in different areas such as drug–drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, dose recommendations, prescriber clarification, contraindication, and patient counselling. Method: A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted in evaluated the accuracy of five AI chatbot platforms versus 273 licensed pharmacists in answering pharmaceutical consultation questions. Participants responded anonymously to a validated 14-question survey based on real-life clinical scenarios across multiple pharmacy domains. AI platforms were tested using Arabic inputs to reflect real-world patient interactions.

PHYTOCHEMICAL NANOPARTICLE AS A NOVEL APPROACH FOR NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES
(Deanship of Scientific Research - Al-Quds University, 2026-05-12) Heba Kafisheh; Marah Adel Al-Bo; Abdel Qader Ahmed Qawasmi
Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), are progressive disorders of the central nervous system characterized by complex pathological mechanisms such as oxidative stress, protein aggregation, neuroinflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Despite extensive research, current therapeutic approaches remain limited to symptomatic management and fail to halt or reverse disease progression. Phytochemicals, naturally derived bioactive compounds from plants, have demonstrated significant neuroprotective properties due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. However, their clinical application is restricted by poor solubility, low bioavailability, rapid metabolism, and limited ability to cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB). Recent advances in nanotechnology have introduced nanoparticle-based delivery systems as a promising strategy to overcome these limitations and enhance brain-targeted therapy. Study Purpose.

KNOWLEDGE, PERCEPTION, AND MANAGEMENT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS AMONG WOMEN IN PALESTINE: A MIXED-METHOD STUDY
(Deanship of Scientific Research - Al-Quds University, 2026-05-12) Cyrina Mansour Abukhalaf; Hussein Hallak
Endometriosis is the most common non-cancerous gynecological disorder that affects women around the world, including those in the Middle East. It has a reported prevalence of 2 to 10%. However, estimating this number is challenging. Lack of knowledge about the disease leads to delays in diagnosis, which can result in serious complications, especially infertility. Therefore, awareness of the symptoms helps with quick diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, no research has been conducted in Palestine to evaluate Palestinian women’s understanding of endometriosis. This study aims to assess knowledge, perception, and management of endometriosis among Palestinian women and Gynecologists.

KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND AWARENESS OF DRUG-DRUG INTERACTIONS AMONG PHARMACY STUDENTS IN PALESTINE
(Deanship of Scientific Research - Al-Quds University, 2026-05-12) Huda Sulaiman; Yasmeen Kaloty; Asmaa Shqerat; Donia Qaraman
Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) have long been recognized as a crucial clinical challenge in healthcare, occurring when two or more drugs react with each other, leading to decreased effectiveness, causing unexpected side effects, or increasing the action of one drug, causing toxicity. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a significant part of adverse drug reactions related to drug-drug interactions is preventable. In Palestine, the healthcare system faces unique challenges, including limited resources, restricted access to advanced clinical decision support systems, and evolving pharmaceutical education standards. No empirical research has evaluated DDI competencies among pharmacy students in Palestine during their educational years. Study purpose.
