Abstract
Abstract Background: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are widely used for managing acid-related gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease. Although PPIs are effective and generally safe for short-term use, their prolonged and inappropriate use has been associated with adverse outcomes, including nutrient deficiencies, infections, and kidney disease.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of Palestinian community pharmacists regarding the use of PPIs.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between December 2025 and March 2026 using a self-administered online questionnaire distributed among community pharmacists in Palestine. The survey consisted of four sections: sociodemographic information; pharmacists’ knowledge of PPIs (including general knowledge, side effects, and drug–drug interactions); attitudes toward PPIs; and dispensing practices. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Linear regression was used to identify predictors of knowledge domains and attitudes.
