dc.description.abstractThe study attempts to discuss the psychological torture of the Palestinian prisoners in the elementary stage of interrogation, during the Second Palestinian Intifada. The time limit of the study was during (2000-2009) and a sample of Palestinian prisoners who were arrested during that period was chosen. Prisoners were met and interviews with them were conducted in order to know the personal experience of each of them, and the researcher chose the prisoners' sample from several Palestinian factions with various charges against them. The study deals with the Palestinian prisoners from both the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The sample included 101 released prisoners, including three female prisoners . The results showed, through the theoretical framework of the study and through the employment of torture techniques, that psychological torture should not be viewed as less dangerous than physical torture; contrarily, it may have more dangerous effects than the physical torture, because psychological torture includes both the body and the mind; the study also aimed to disclose the involvement of Israeli prison administration in using psychological torture with prisoners. We succeeded to disclose some of the deliberate tricks applied by Israeli investigation committees .The study focuses on the prisoners' physical or mental suffering in the Israeli jails, for the Israeli interrogators began to engage in psychological interrogation for these prisoners Regarding study justification, Israel has, to an extraordinary extent, employed the psychological torture against prisoners, and began to reduce the physical torture and beatings that had prevailed before 1999. Also, Israel claims publicly, in front of the world, that it abides by the prisoners rights, claiming that prisoners are not subjected to physical and psychological torture during their interrogation in order to force them to confess to activities they may or may not have done. In this study, we've followed the descriptive and historical methods, and chosen the survey approach by doing a survey on a systematic sample of prisoners. Interviews were conducted with them to know how investigations are administered by interrogation teams. The sample was selected to meet the diversity of sentences, reasons of detention and gender, in addition to recording the ratio of each category in the sample. We've also interviewed children with ages less than 18 years. We recorded interviews with prisoners and we discharged these interviews, from which we became cognizant of the methods of psychological torture against these prisoners. The importance of the current study lies in the fact that it examined the details of psychological interrogation techniques and their impacts on the prisoners during the Second Intifada, and it launched horizons for new scientific research studies, for it is among the first studies to discuss such matters .en
