Abstract
The study examined the European Union policies towards the refugees’ crisis since the Arab revolution, and took the Syrian refugees as a study case. The study showed the political view in a number of Arab countries that witnessed revolutions and protests which started peacefully and then took the form of violence in some of them, and this resulted in deaths and injuries between citizens and the official army. That caused the citizens to flee and displace to neighboring countries; some of them resorted to the European Union searching for a safe place, most of them were Syrian refugees who escaped to Europe because of the intensity of fighting there. The study is based on the thesis of "differences between European Union countries attitudes dealing with the refugees", most of which is based on the argument of maintaining security of their countries and citizens. Therefore, the study was based on many theories which are Realism, Liberalism and the theory of human security in the international relations. The refugee crisis of the Arab revolution showed the gap, between the perfection in the announced policies of the EU and the implementation of the EU policies. The theory of human security, as it has become a great challenge for European countries, especially that the security of their countries and citizens in their point of view became associated with refugees. Refugees have become a source of concern for many of these countries, which forced them to take measures contradictory to humanity in order to maintain their security despite their commitment to many international conventions and regulations that protect the refugees and pursue to settle them, but humanitarian considerations became absent in many countries for political and security considerations. This study had many results; one of the most important results is that the reactions of the European Union countries were linked to security, economic and cultural reasons, which in turn overcame the declared ideals of democracy and the preservation of human rights and nondiscrimination, which emerged in the decisions of some countries that allowed the entrance of Christian refugees only
