Abstract
The study, entitled "Damming the Ethiopian Renaissance" and its Implications on the Egyptian and Sudanese Water Security, discussed the negative effects of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project and its possible repercussions on the Egyptian and Sudanese national security in the light of the possibility of its great collapse. The dam carries a lot of economic, water and environmental risks to downstream countries.
The study focused on the Egyptian-Ethiopian relations and Sudanese-Ethiopian relations, the Israeli role in the issue of Al Nahda Dam, the Israeli infiltration in the Horn of Africa and its attempt to tamper with the water issue in general and the issue of the Nile water specifically to pressure Egypt to allow it to obtain a share of the Nile water.
The study revealed the economic, agricultural, social and environmental risks that may result from the destruction of Ethiopia in the construction of the dam, according to many studies carried out by companies and offices of consulting and engineering world, which concluded mostly that the renaissance has great repercussions on the national security of Egypt and Sudan, Due to earthquakes in the area which is considered an active area of earthquakes or because of the accumulation of large quantities of silt, raising the water level more than the ability of the dam to endure.
The study used the descriptive approach to describe and analyze the Egyptian and Sudanese position of the dam, Ethiopia's goals of building the dam and Israel's attempt to play the Renaissance Dam and Israeli-Ethiopian cooperation in many fields. The study reached a number of recommendations:,
- Al-Nahda Dam is a strategic threat to the water security and national security of Egypt and Sudan, due to the repercussions and negative effects that will result from its construction in the site dedicated to the same specifications that carry a lot of engineering and technical errors.
-Experts gather on the existence of catastrophic effects devastating to fill the Renaissance on Egypt، both when it is running and start the process of storage of water and the aggravation of crises over time after
the operation. The effects will be catastrophic if it falls and collapses because of great potential for the collapse of the dam.
- The issue of Al-Nahda Dam represents a great challenge for the Egyptian national security because of many factors, including the Ethiopian procrastination, its attempt to buy time and establish new facts on the ground through the policy of forming committees, On the Egyptian national security through the policy of creating crise.
-Ethiopia is seeking to use the Ennahda Dam as an influential regional paper to make itself a major contributor to the water and development issues in the Horn of Africa, making the Ennahda Dam issue beyond the development dimensions of other dimensions of the interests of other regional powers that want to pressure Cairo through the water issue.
The study also recommends activating the Egyptian and Arab strengths in the face of the Al Nahda Dam project and its serious repercussions on the Arab and Egyptian national security, and searching for creative solutions to save new sources of water and work in the upstream countries serving the Nile basin countries, such as purchasing and cultivating land in the upstream countries, And not to overuse the use of water, and the reform of irrigation systems of Egypt and used modern irrigation systems, which saves a lot of waste water.
