Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the basic science processes and their relationship with the 7th graders’ motivation to learn science in Bethlehem District in light of gender, place of study, and their science achievement.
The descriptive correlational approach is adopted by the researcher. The population of the study consisted of (3543 male and female students from the 7th grade in Bethlehem District) where a stratified cluster sample of (176) female students and (178) male students was selected as (10% of the study population for the academic year “2020 2021”).
To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher prepared two instruments, the first one is the science processes test and the second one is a motivation questionnaire towards learning science. Content validity and reliability were established for all instruments.
The Findings of the study showed that the percentage of science processes among the 7th graders’ at Bethlehem District reached (40.5%). The findings of the study also showed that there were statistically differences at (α≤ 0.05) in the mean scores of 7th graders’ basic science processes at Bethlehem district due to the gender and in favor of the male students. The findings of the study showed that there were statistically differences at (α≤ 0.05) in the mean scores of 7th graders’ basic science processes due to the achievement in the sixth grade. The differences between (less than 70) and the rest of the averages were in favor of the rest of the averages, where the differences between (80 89) and (70 79) were in favor of (80 89), as well as between (90 and above) and (70 79) in favor of (90 and over). And there were no
statistically differences at (α≤ 0.05) in the mean scores of 7th graders’ basic science processes due to the place of study.
Regarding students’ motivation towards learning science, the findings showed that the degree of students’ motivation towards learning science among the 7th graders’ at Bethlehem District reached (3.58). The findings of the study also showed that there were statistically differences at (α≤ 0.05) in the mean scores of 7th graders’ motivation towards learning science at Bethlehem district due to the achievement in the sixth grade. The differences between (less than 70) and the rest of the averages were in favor of the rest of the averages, where the differences between (80--89) and (70--79) were in favor of (80--89), as well as between (90 and above) and (70--79) in favor of (90 and over). And there were no statistically differences at (α≤ 0.05) in the mean scores of 7th graders’ motivation towards learning science due to the gender and the place of study.
The Finding of the study revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between the degrees of science processes and the degree of motivation towards science learning among 7th graders’ in Bethlehem District, which means the more the degrees of science processes the more of the degrees of motivation towards science learning and vice versa.
The researcher recommended drawing the attention of educators, teachers and supervisors to the importance of science processes and increasing motivation to learn science by working to develop them, and conducting more research on the relationship between the science process skills and motivation due to the close relationship with each other but on different samples and different variables.
