Abstract
The study aimed to identify the impact of the cost of capital structure on the financial performance of the companies listed on the Palestine Exchange. The study used the analytical descriptive approach, as well as the time series analysis method (Panel Data) for the data. The study population consisted of (32) service, industrial and investment companies listed on the Palestine Exchange during the period (2014-2020). The study was applied to a sample consisting of (14) service, industrial and investment companies. The SPSS statistical analysis program was used to analyze the numerical data through the standard regression test. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which were: the absence of an effect of the cost of capital structure on the financial performance of the companies listed on the Palestine Exchange, and the results also revealed that there was no statistically significant effect of the cost of capital structure on the financial performance through the return on equity (ROE), economic value added (EVA), and market value (MV). The results also showed that there is a statistically significant positive impact of the cost of capital structure on financial performance through the ratio of operating cash flow (OCF), and a negative impact on the earnings per share (EPS). Finally, the results revealed that the most important financial indicators affected by the cost of capital structure are the operating cash flow ratio, followed by the earnings per share. Among the most important recommendations of the study: that companies rely on the most appropriate financing structure for them, by calculating the cost of capital structure in order to ensure maximizing their profits and protecting the wealth of their owners. The study also recommends that companies rely on increasing financing of the capital structure through a balance between the cost of equity and long-term borrowing and reinvestment of a percentage of retained earnings so as to achieve a positive operating cash flow ratio, and this is not reflected negatively on the earnings per share and the return from shareholders’ equity. And not exposing the company to the risks of financial hardship in the future as a result of non-payment of debts.
