Abstract
The study sheds light on an important historical period in the life of one of the parties and political forces of Arab nationalist movement, namely, the Arab Ba'ath Socialist Party. It's known that from 1947 to 1978 the party has played an important role in preserving the Arab identity and in defending the central cause of the Arab people , means, the Palestinian cause. On the one hand, the main objective of this study is to figure out or identify the importance of the Palestinian issue in the Baathist thought, and to identify all aspects of the support provided by the party to the foresaid cause. On the other hand, it's important to know that the study used diachronic (the historical stages method ), descriptive approach and content analysis to identify the emergence of the party and the analysis of its strategies towards the Palestinian cause through the use of statements and publications of the party and other material or observations discussed the stance of the Baath Party concerning the Palestinian question. Actually, the study deals with the impact of the Palestinian cause historically on the emergence of the Baath Party, as well as, the size of financial and moral support provided by the party for the Palestinian factions in the early sixties through the establishment of training camps and at the same time through facilitating the launch of guerrilla action from Syrian territory. Moreover, the study has clarified the impact of the party on the attitudes of the Arab powers and political systems towards the Palestinian cause through its alliance with Arab progressive forces so as to achieve Arab solidarity and Arab unity. On the other hand, the study concludes that the slogans and speeches of the Ba'ath were of great importance to revive the national awareness and the spirit of struggle of the Arab masses in order to resist the colonialism and its ally Israel, as well as, the rejection of " the Partition Resolution" up to the party's participation in 1948 war. Again, it is essential to remember that the Ba'ath Party has exploited the ideal and emotional side to move the national feelings of the Arab masses and this of course creates great difficulty in achieving the above mentioned objectives of the party over its long experience in the political life. On the other hand, the party support the idea of creating a Palestinian entity by highlighting the personal identity of the Palestinian people who struggle to liberate their homeland. Also, it talks about the idea that the party helps the PLO to gain recognition by all Arab states, as well as international community as the sole representative of the Palestinian people under the condition that its goals and objectives must meet with the party policy and his revolutionary vision away from the Arab dictations during that time. Moreover, The study points out that the party believes that the only way to liberate Palestine is through the adoption of armed struggle, people's liberation war and through the establishment of armed groups linked to Ba'ath. Also, it shows the rejection of the Ba'ath party of the suspected settlement projects that aimed at spreading out the spirit of frustration amongst the Arab masses. ‌ Finally, the study confirms that the Baath Party considers the unity of Arab progressive forces as an important factor in achieving comprehensive Arab unity towards the Liberation of Palestine. Moreover, it assures that the conflict with Israel is the cornerstone factor between all these forces and the Arab regimes to unite in the face of Israel and jeopardize its existence and to enable the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights
