Abstract
The American-French Relations
2001 – 2006
The goal of this study is to tackle the relationships between the USA and
France in the period between 2001 and 2006 without ignoring the period of
the nineties as a preliminary entrance to the study. The study, too, takes the
bilateral relations towards some European issues, and the relations between
them in the light of security and strategic issues. Finally, it focuses upon the
bilateral relations concerning the Middle Eastern issues.
The study uses the method of analyzing the political international relations
in a frame of balanced theory, also, using the method of decision-making in
studying and benefiting from the international system approach. The
researcher divided the study into seven chapters including the introduction
and the conclusions.
The study reveals that in spite of some differences between the USA and
France such as the International Criminal Court, Kito Protocol for the climate
changing, the missile armor, Iraq war 2003 and the enlargement of the
European Union.
However, the political French attitude kept pace with the attitude of the
USA, that was due to several reasons as the internal French affairs and the
frame of the international system which limits the role of France. Even
though, there were a lot of agreed stances as the war against terrorism, the war
on Afghanistan, the position of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the peace
process, also, the stance towards Syria, Lebanon, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and
the Iranian nuclear file. In the light of the previous issues, the AmericanFrench
relations were very close and interweaved to the extent of similarity
