- ItemAssessing the Exploitations and Violations of Children’s Digital Rights on YouTube: Palestinian Kidinfluencers as a case study(Al-Quds University جامعة القدس, 2022-05-18) ديانا "محمد فيصل" الخياط; Diana "Mohammad Faisal" AlkhayyatThe rise of social media platforms and the rapid evolution of today’s life led to the emergence of “Kidinfluencers”, children who creates content on social media networks and have large social media followings. This study looks at content of key Palestinian “Kidinfluencers” YouTube channels and tracks the exploitation and violations of children's rights through the lens of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child(UNCRC) and YouTube guidelines. Moreover, the study examines the current Palestinian laws and regulations and its jurisdiction in observing and dealing with “kidinfluencers” content where violations of children rights exist, especially that this phenomenon holds a series of consequences that may expose children to potential risks. Using mixed methods (concurrent nested) in analysis and data collection; this study analyses selected content of the 5 most subscribed to and viewed YouTube channels of Palestinian kidinfluencers within the Communication Privacy Management (CPM) theory. The study showed that all channels violated one or more of the UNCRC articles and YouTube guidelines, and that there are shortcomings in the Palestinian judicial body when monitoring the content of YouTube channels. One of the most prominent recommendations this study is calling for updating the current laws to be more harmonized and consistent with the global status in protecting children online.
