dc.description.abstract | This study aims at identifying the form of, and changes in, axes and alliances in the Arab region as a result of “Arab Spring” revolutions. It investigates Arab, regional and international parties’ contribution to changing axes and blocs, as well as the contribution these shifts have made to change the centers of influence and leadership in the Arab region, assessing relevant impact on Israel’s status in the region. The research problem centers on the key question of “To what extent have the “Arab Spring” revolutions contributed to strategic shifts in Arab, regional and international blocs across the Arab region? To investigate the research problem, the author employs two primary hypotheses and a set of questions. The hypotheses are: − There is a correlation between “Arab Spring” revolutions, which broke out in the region between late 2010 and early 2011 and still have their consequences and interactions going on until the present day, and restructuring of alliances and blocs in the region. − Revolutions have introduced changes to foreign relations with States in the region and worldwide. As a result, in the Arab region, blocs and alliances have been restructured in line with a prioritisation of threats and risks from the perspective of “Arab Spring” countries. To achieve these goals, the research is informed by a historical, analytical methodology to review and explore conditions in some States, which the author considers to be fit for the purpose of the study. The research also uses a descriptive methodology to outline the positions of blocs, axes and alliances towards the courses and developments of revolutions. The study is divided into four chapters. Providing the theoretical framework of the study, Chapter 1 includes an introduction and the research problem, assumptions, purposes, boundaries in terms of time and space, and methodology. Chapter 2 presents a theoretical framework of the revolutions and the concept of blocs and alliances. Chapter 3 focuses on the blocs, axes and alliances in the region before and after revolutions. Chapter 4 reviews the consequences of revolutions on blocs in the region and beyond, and explores the impact of these blocs on the “Arab Spring” countries. It highlights expected risks and impact of the Middle East alliance against Iran on regional blocs. | en |
