Abstract
The study dealt with Al-hothalyyin Diwan which contains the poetry of Hotheil tribe in pre-Islamic era and the beginning of Islam. This includes three catagories of poets, the pre-Islamic, post Islamic and Al- mokhadrameen (promininat) who are known by the beauty of poetize, the depth of influence, and accuracy of expression. The focus of the study is mainly concerned with the animal in the poetry of Hotheil diwan. The topic has been chosen due to the lack of research about the animal in poetry, and to uncover some of the technical beautiful elements in Hothali poetry known for its eloquence and diction and its abundance locutions, and the depth of its significance and highlighting an important literary issue in the pre-Islamic poetry in general, and the Hothali poetry in particular, which is talking about the animal and the nature of the relationship that links the Hothali man with it. As for the approach followed in the study, it is the complementary, as I got benefitted of the approaches: descriptive, legendary, psychological, social and symbolic where necessary. The most important conclusions of the study are : the bevavior of animal expressed Al-hothalyyin’s life, and their feelings, and emotions, and it occupied an obvious position in the religious and legendary thought of Al-hothalyyin, and reflected the dimensions of their social and humanitarian life, and Al-hothalyyin also employed the audio and mobility image in the animal’s image, and presented them with their tangible colors and real sounds, and overflew it from charm of their language, and the beauty of their enunciations, the splendor of their imageries, at the time they did not talk about animal in a poem individually, to be a purpose in a certain poem, thus their talk was of bemoaning and romance, pride and praise, satire and nostalgia, and they took it in as an integral part of nature around them, therefore, the animal had not been presented as free of the elements of surrounding nature, but it was reflecting the time and place, color and sound. The study proved that Al-hothalyyin were part of the poetic status that prevailed in pre-Islamic eras and the beginning of Islam, including what they presented of concepts, values and attitudes, and their poetry was a full record of events, places and days. More research in the pre-Islamic poetry is needed, as it is very necessary, to study Alhothalyyin poetry, because there are a lot of literary and poetic issues that need to be researched and studied, helping to enrich its study, and discovering its aesthetics and its characteristics and its artistic and literary properties
