Abstract
This study was conducted between the months of April and August 2016-2017. The
population of the study was represented by Palestinian college graduates between 2010-
2016, in Ramallah governorate.
For the purposes of achieving the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was designed to
identify the role of Palestine TV in promoting political culture from the viewpoint of
university graduates in Ramallah governorate, between 2010-2016, and to identify the role
of Palestine TV in promoting political reference and orientation of the people towards
public activities, the political system and towards promoting the sense of identity. The aim
of this effort is to investment the outcome of the study in reaching the best results that
reflects on the performance of the staff working in Palestine TV. The study has used the
descriptive and the analytical methods in conducting its research.
This study consists of six chapters. The first chapter covers the background of the study
and includes: the introduction, the problem of the study, its validation, its importance, its
objectives, its questions, its hypotheses, its variables, and the previous literature. The
second chapter covers the theoretical framework and includes: a presentation on the nature
of media, the definition of the media concept, types of media, and the concept of the
political culture, its patterns, components and functions. The third chapter dealt with the
General Corporation of Palestinian Radio and Television. The fourth chapter contains the
methodology and procedures of the study, and the fifth chapter includes the presentation
and discussion of the results, and chapter six contains the conclusions and
recommendations conclusions.
The importance of the study is that it examines the role of Palestine TV in promoting
political culture in light of the political and field changes that the Palestinians are facing as
a result of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land, on the one hand, and the
Palestinian diplomatic moves in the international sphere on the other hand, namely,
acquiring the observer status for Palestine in the United Nations General Assembly, the
raising of the Palestinian flag at United Nations Headquarters in New York, and the
acceptance of Palestine to the membership of United Nations organizations.
The researcher designed a questionnaire as the research tool, to be distributed among the
Palestinian universities’ graduates in the governorate of Ramallah _El-Bireh, in
Palestinian, in years between 2010 and 2016. The questionnaire adjudication was
conducted; and its validity and consistency were examined through internal consistency
(Kronbach Alpha), and through Statistical Analysis Program (SPSS), Excel program,
Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, Analysis of variance (ANOVA), and T-test.
The most important findings of the study is that Palestine TV, in the period between 2010
– 2016, has effects, in varying degrees, on the Palestinian universities’ graduates,
concerning their sense of Palestinian identity, voluntary work, and their orientation
towards the political system and public work. The results also showed that Palestine TV
strengthens the public political referential. That was clear in the responses to the paragraph
in the questionnaire which states that (Palestine TV highlights the political symbols),
where it came in the first ranking by 87.6%, while the paragraph that states that (Palestine
TV covers all the activities related to Palestinian organizations without discrimination) was
the lowest paragraphs by 60.8%.
In light of the results of the study, a number of recommendations were presented, most
important of which are: the creation of a wide area for different opinions, opening the door
to all members of different orientations and affiliations, covering the activities of factions
without discrimination, focusing on historical national programs, organizing television
seminars on volunteering and community participation. Raise people’s awareness about the
danger of division on the Palestinian cause; and increase the cultural programs that
enhance national memory and keep it alert and sustainable.
