Abstract
This study aimed to determine the impact of new media forms on the “Arab Spring” revolutions through tracking them in Tunisia and Egypt as study cases. The chapters of the study will shed light on the emergence of the new media, its tools and development, in addition to the outbreak the Arab Spring revolutions, their interactions and overlaps. This is done in order to measure the impact on the stages of the revolutions in the Arab World in general and in Tunisia and Egypt in particular. A descriptive approach is quite suitable for the nature and goals of this study. This approach is appropriate for this type of media research which involves descriptions and analysis. The research tracked and looked into relevant previous studies and literature to reach the desired results and analyze their content. The researcher has reached several conclusions and results through the study and research of types and examples of new media forms such as the impact of blogs that contributed in shaping the collective consciousness towards several issues, or the effect of social media network “Facebook” which created a platform for internal communication away from police detection. Meanwhile, Twitter allowed the external communication of news and YouTube had an impact in documenting and exposing the oppression of authorities. The research also demonstrated the impotence of traditional media forms which are controlled by the ruling regimes or whoever is close to them. These forms could not stand against the strength of new media. The researcher recommends that enough attention be given to the impact of new media on revolutions and community activism by legislative, academic, community, research and media organizations through promoting continuous and relevant research . It is also recommended that laws which regulate the use of new media as a tool for selfexpression following decades of oppressing freedom, and monopoly of media and expression by oppressive authorities and regimes should be issued.
