Abstract
The aim of the study is to identify the reality of virtual volunteering work for the university students, in addition to the extent to which the students of Al-Quds University realize the importance of virtual volunteering in achieving community development. Also, it identifies the most important obstacles students face in virtual volunteering in Al-Quds University and the ways for developing and enhancing Electronic or virtual Volunteering. The study also aimed to identify the differences in the means of the awareness of the students of Al-Quds University of virtual volunteering due to the variables (gender, faculty, volunteering time, and Internet access hours per week). In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a random sample of 374 male and female students of Al-Quds University registered for the academic year 2016-2017 was selected. The researcher used the questionnaire as a tool for study and analyzed them using the SPSS program. The result of the study shows that the reality of the interest of the administrative body and the students themselves in Al-Quds University in virtual volunteering came moderate. The results show that Al-Quds University students are partially aware of the importance of electronic volunteering and the need for it in the help of others, but they do not do it often. The results shows that there are some obstacles affecting the electronic or virtual volunteering such as, the absence of a University electronic page interested in virtual volunteering, and not including virtual voluntary work to the voluntary work department in the university. Also, and the results shows that the most important ways to promote the virtual volunteering is that voluntary work department should provide electronic page for the students in order to carry out various activities to support students scientifically, culturally, morally, socially, and be affiliated to the university official web page. The results of the study also show that were statistically significant differences in the questionnaires according to the variables (gender, faculty, specialization, duration of volunteering). No significant differences were found according to the number of hours of access to the internet. The researcher recommends paying attention to the idea of virtual volunteering and strengthening it and promoting the organization of a program which has a vision for this kind of volunteering in the university campus, and can be included in the university website to enable students to help others in one place. Also, promoting the idea of volunteer work, through seminars and workshops carried out in the university supported by the Department of Voluntary Work. Also, the university should include the virtual voluntary work program in the university’s volunteer work and counting the virtual voluntary work hours for students through the electronic page of the Department of Volunteer Work to help all Students who are unable to volunteer in the field or face to face such as, disabled, and female students who do not want to volunteer in the field to get their volunteer work hours easily.
