Abstract
This study aimed to identify the motives to resort to lying and its relationship to the concept of self among the students of secondary education in government schools. The study population consisted of all public secondary schools in the academic year 2008/2009. The study sample Vtkont of random cluster sample included sixteen schools in the governorate of Ramallah and Al Bireh. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher built a questionnaire which included the study tools, and verification of validity and reliability. The results showed that motivation to resort to lying and its relationship to the concept of self among the students of secondary education in government schools was "weak", while it estimates the students motivated to resort to lying degree of "weak". The results also showed no statistically significant differences in the estimates of students motivated to resort to lying due to the variables of economic status, cultural level of the father, with differences due to the variables of sex favor of males, and cultural status of the mother. The results also showed no statistically significant differences in the estimates of students to the concept of self due to the variables of economic status, cultural level of the father with differences attributed to the cultural level of the mother. While there were differences in function between the estimates of students to the concept of self due to the variable sex, and in favor of males. In light of the results, the researcher recommended a number of recommendations, including the need for a policy to confront such issues important to our children.
